No ATM and
Credit Cards accepted, tourists have to carry Cash only in Hotels and
Restaurants, but hotels are very cheap yet not full facilities.
Limited
tourists can have permit to visit here like 1600 each year (mostly Australia,
Fiji, New Zealand and Fiji) and rest from other countries. However, no tourist
information centre, no tour guides and no other organised activities are here
to do.
Weather is
always hot (little higher 30C) and humid, tourists have to bring cool, loose
clothing with wide brimmed hat, in fact rest during the middle of the day.
Always lock
room before leave cash inside the room because there is little crime in a
country and that made up of small communities and few visitors.
Like New
Zealand no poisonous snakes or spiders are found here also no malaria and no
rabid dog, but at Funafuti the capital of the country has plenty of mosquitoes
and flies.
Its Wi-Fi
free zone, but tourists can buy prepaid internet card but there is no guarantee
it will be able to use it, even though at Funafuti it is very slow while it
working.
No souvenir
shops due to less tourists, but some them buy locally made handicrafts (woven
fans, shell necklaces and baskets) from the Women’s Handicraft Center and it is
basically stall under a tree outside the airport specially on flight days.
Funafuti’s
main island, Fongafale has few good swimming spots, also lagoon can be polluted
and on the Ocean side it can be sharp coral, strong currents and rough surfs.
Tourists can be go a day trip to Funafuti Conservation Area where water
swimming pool is clear.
Food is
simple, local and tasty which are made from fresh fish, fried chicken, papaya,
pork, taro and coconuts with imported flour, sugar and soft-hard drinks. People
are here use to sit on the floor and eat with hands.
Funafuti’s
airstrip is using public park like playing games, walk, talk and other
activities by local people because its only used two mornings in a week on
Tuesday and Thursday.
Restaurants
sell cheap and filling plates of Chinese style food, but sometimes it suffers
from shortages when shipments don’t arrive. Thursday to Saturday is party night
on Fongafale island where older go to twists and youngsters go clubbing.
Government
receive $ 4 million for doing nothing and the reason is, Tuvalu government receives
from luxury from the country’s domain name .tv!
Here People
can experience two seasons one wet season from November to April and a dry
season from May to October.
