Incredible yet Unknown Hill Station in India – Pelling, Sikkim

 Sikkim is quite popular about its beauty. A part from Sikkim’s attractiveness, there is amazing and prominent hill station which located in west Sikkim and its famous for natural splendor, serenity and its magnificent view of the snowcapped Kanchenjunga range, the third highest peak in the world. Pelling is about 133 km away from Siliguri and 125km from Gangtok. Today, Pelling is second biggest tourist destination in the state after Gangtok as from its history and culture. However, Pelling stays absolutely peaceful and people come here for peace.

Sikkim’s lovely town is 2150 meters above from the sea level, though its myth that Pelling was surround by forest from years before. The success for this town behind these two Buddhists monastery Pemayangste and Sanga Choling monastery, Pelling village situated between those monasteries. Although, there are several places must visit before leaving here such as Khecheopalri Lake, Changey Waterfall, Singshore Bridge and many more. Another, Pelling is the best trekking destination for trekkers, though said that truly paradise for trekkers and people come here for trekking opportunities that this town offers. Addition, the world-famous treks such as Yuksom and Dzongri are here where trekkers can enjoy. About the weather, entire Sikkim state is impulsive as in Pelling may change from bright and sunny to clouded and low in a matter of minutes.

Even, the perfect time for a visit here from mid-February to May and from September to December, though December to march are cooler months with tempters going to below 10 degree. Nevertheless, foreign tourist is coming in this season as Indian are not suitable. Talking about the festivals which celebrating here are extremely colorful and enjoyable. Local Limboo people celebrates many festivals like Saga Dawa (three important events which are connected to the life of Buddha), Drupka Teshi (Buddha spoke first lecture of four Noble Truths), Tihaar (Festival of lights) and Dasain (Celebrated by Hindu Nepalese). In festival seasons, folk songs and dances of the Limboo tribe are energetic and rich.

People can take flights from nearest airport Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri which is a four-hour drive from Pelling. Moreover, railway is also best option as nearest railway station is Jalpalguri Railway station, which is 170km far from Pelling. About the accommodation, in Pelling has not star hotels for deluxe people but this small town has approx. 90 hotels where they make guests feel they are part of family. As talking about shopping, Pelling has all the traditional Buddhists handicrafts as people like to buy. Pelling has other sub castes like Khamdhak, Muringla, Tamling, Lingden and Pegha, however these people are mostly earning from farming.

Places must visit:


 Khangchendzonga Waterfalls: 28 km away from Darap en route to Yuksam and 5 km before Yuksam. Active throughout the year and the most beautiful waterfall in Sikkim.








Sangachoeling Monastery: Built in 1697 as one of the oldest and very important in
Sikkim, which situated on a ridge above Pelling and overlooking the famous Pemayangte Monastery. The road is not motorable, so people need to take a 45 minute through the destination. This beautiful monastery is also called “the island of esoteric teaching”.




Khecheopalri Lake: considered the scare lake in Sikkim which is located at 24 km from Pemayangtse Monastery. The lake surrounded by huge forest cover.








Singshore Bridge/ Uttray: 2nd highest 


bridge in Asia which nearly 300 meters above the ground and 260 meters long. Connecting the two hills through this bridge, however middle of the bridge is thrilling and fascinating. This place is surrounded by forest and one treks a bit can come across wild animals such as tree bear, Red Panda, Wild Rabbits, thar, musk deer and wild cats.





Pemayangtse Monastery: one of the oldest and most important monastery as like Sangachoeling which is found in 1705 and this monastery belongs to the Nyingma-pa sect. this 3-storied building of the monastery houses a good collection of wall painting and sculptures.









Rabdentse Ruins: About 10 km far from 



Pemayangtse Monastery, where ruins lie hidden from the main road. On the way of Randanse in forest area some unique species of orchids and a few lakes found there, these lakes are also home to local carp fish.
